Saf-Gard Safety Shoe Co., a safety shoe footwear business, announced Wednesday that it had acquired both Michigan Industrial Shoe and its affiliate Great Lakes Industrial Shoe for an undisclosed amount.

Based in Redford, Michigan, and established in 1961, Michigan Industrial Shoe currently has operations in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio.

Mike Girolam is the current president and CEO of Michigan Industrial Shoe and its affiliate Great Lakes Industrial Shoe.

“We feel strongly that the sale provides the best, long-term growth path for both Michigan Industrial Shoe and Great Lakes Industrial Shoe. We also know that this change comes as a big surprise to everyone,” Girolam said. “We made this difficult decision after much thought and soul searching, due to its lasting positive effect on both MIS and GLIS.”

Pat Kubis, Saf-Gard’s president and CEO, said that the acquisition was an addition to Saf-Gard’s 21 retail locations across the Eastern seaboard.

“We are excited to have Mike’s dedicated team join Saf-Gard, and look forward to providing expert service to all the customers MIS and GLIS have served for nearly 60 years in Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio,” said Kubis in a statement.

Founded in a warehouse in Greensboro back in 1980, Saf-Gard is currently a safety footwear provider with mobile shoe stores and retail locations along the East Coast.
