MVA Hosts 19th Annual Service Awards Presentation

9/14/20

Moore & Van Allen PLLC celebrated its longstanding commitment to public service by hosting the 19th annual Sally and Bill Van Allen Public Service Award presentation virtually on September 9. The annual event recognized the achievements of firm employees and community partners who make significant service contributions.

Award recipients include:

Sally and Bill Van Allen Public Service Award: Christopher Thompson, Real Estate Member, for co-leading the firm’s Human Trafficking Pro Bono Project, pro bono work with the International Refugee Assistance Project (IRAP), and mentoring high school leaders through the Urban Promise’s StreetLeader Program.

Outstanding Volunteer Staff Member Award: Kathy Bonapart, for her long-standing hands-on volunteer service within the community through both MVA and her church, and for her contributions as a mentor through Heart Math Tutoring.

Outstanding Pro Bono Project Award: MVA Chapter of the International Refugee Assistance Project, an organization that provides legal advocacy for refugees and displaced people in need of a safe place to call home. Led by Financial Services Associate Anastasia Fanning, the MVA chapter of IRAP works with clients to identify and navigate pathways to safety through free direct legal representation, systemic advocacy, and litigation.

“The strong commitment of the firm’s lawyers and staff to helping those in need is a cornerstone of our history – a legacy forged by MVA founder Bill Van Allen and his wife Sally. Together the Van Allens built a life rooted in service through their tremendous civic and cultural contributions that have helped shape the city of Charlotte. Amidst this global pandemic, I am inspired by our colleagues who have honored the Van Allen legacy by helping others in this great time of need,” said Tom Mitchell, chairman of the Moore & Van Allen Management Committee.

The event featured a video message, available here.
