George V. Hanna III

Moore & Van Allen PLLC is pleased to announce that Charlotte Litigation Member George V. Hanna III has been named to the North Carolina Lawyers Hall of Fame, a North Carolina Lawyers Weekly awards program designed to recognize the state’s most noteworthy senior lawyers. Hanna was formally recognized at the Hall of Fame event on June 26.

“We extend our sincere congratulations to George, who is very deserving of this honor,” said Moore & Van Allen Chairman Tom Mitchell. “He is an esteemed and accomplished leader within the legal community, and a steadfast example of the ethical practice of law.”

Induction into the Hall of Fame is reserved for North Carolina lawyers who are 60 years of age and older. Inclusion is determined based on career accomplishments, contributions to the profession and to the development of the law in North Carolina, contributions to the bar, and efforts to increase access to justice.

Hanna is a veteran litigator, arbitrator and mediator with extensive experience in business and construction disputes. He also serves as a trial court mediator certified by the North Carolina Dispute Resolution Commission and is a member of the Panel of Arbitrators of the American Arbitration Association. Hanna was a founding member and chair of the firm’s Public Service Committee, and a founder and first chair of the firm’s Diversity Committee. He is a past president of the Mecklenburg County Bar (MCB) and Mecklenburg Bar Foundation, and a former chair of Legal Services of Southern Piedmont (now Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy) and the Children’s Law Center (now Council for Children's Rights). He previously served on the North Carolina Justice Center Board, was a founder and a first co-chair of the MCB’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee, and served on the MCB’s Volunteer Lawyers Committee for 10 years. He also served on the North Carolina Bar Association’s (NCBA) Board of Governors and for nearly a decade was a member the NCBA’s Pro Bono Planning Committee. Hanna participated with the Community Building Initiative and has been actively involved in the Charlotte YMCA for more than 40 years. He was a longtime member of the NC Chief Justice’s Equal Access to Justice Commission and remains a special advisor to the Commission.
