Later this year, Piedmont Overlook, the new continuing care neighborhood at Windsor Run, will celebrate its eagerly anticipated grand opening. Windsor Run now joins 18 other Erickson Living-managed communities nationwide offering continuing care neighborhoods.

With construction on schedule to finish this summer, Piedmont Overlook will offer residents assisted living, memory care, and long-term care services. With 27,000 square feet of space on one floor, the neighborhood will feature a restaurant, family kitchen, salon, living rooms, and an enclosed courtyard. A variety of modern studio and one-bedroom apartment homes will feature full private baths and showers, walk-in closets, granite countertops, and easy access to all the amenities and services that Windsor Run offers.

“This is an exciting time at Windsor Run,” says Chris Fitzgibbons, the community’s director of continuing care. “With the launch of this new neighborhood, we are pleased to offer the full continuum of care at our community.

With a proven track record, including a hospital readmission rate that’s half the national average, these communities already set Erickson Living apart as an industry leader. Piedmont Overlook is ready to continue building on this tradition of excellence.

“Piedmont Overlook is of major importance and value to current and future residents,” says community member Bob Mack, a Windsor Run resident. “When planning for our retirement, my wife Lynne and I only considered communities that provided all levels of care. The addition of Piedmont Overlook, along with our current on-campus medical center, will undoubtedly establish Windsor Run as one of the best communities among its peers.”

Resident-centered care

At the heart of Piedmont Overlook is a commitment to person-centered care, a holistic approach that encompasses every aspect of people above and beyond their medical diagnosis.

“Person-centered care, in my opinion, separates Erickson Living from the competition,” says Fitzgibbons. “We build each resident’s plan of care based on their choices and preferences. We encourage each of our residents to make as many choices as they like, allowing them to enjoy living their life to the fullest extent.”

To help in these efforts, Fitzgibbons is currently in the process of recruiting and hiring the dedicated staff who will provide this excellence in personalized care.

“It is our goal to identify talented, dedicated, and caring individuals to work with our residents,” he says. In the coming weeks, Fitzgibbons will be adding a director of nursing, programming manager, social worker, health care sales director, dietician, and care associates to his top-notch team.

Keeping informed

Throughout the entire planning and construction process, current Windsor Run residents are kept up-to-date with biweekly updates, storyboards in common areas, and monthly Town Hall meetings.

“There is a comfort in knowing that if our health needs change, we have the option to remain on the same campus where our new friends and support systems are,” says Maureen Hlavacek, a community resident. “Having continuing care on campus was important in our decision to move to Windsor Run. It is especially important for a couple, because if one of you needs higher level care and not the other, it is a significant convenience for spending time with your partner when they are in another building on the same campus.”

Finishing touches

In the weeks ahead, the management team will prepare for licensure, review program elements, and keep in constant contact with Kaufman Lynn Construction, the general contractors on the project. As of this month, all interior mechanical, plumbing, electrical rough-ins, and inspections are scheduled to be complete, as well as drywall, drywall finishing, and priming and painting the first coat. Fine grading and sidewalks were finished just before the holidays. In the coming weeks, construction crews will install cabinets, countertops, sinks, and luxury flooring.

Final painting and millwork trim will be completed.

“While the building and amenities will be state-of-the-art and welcoming, the true foundation of this neighborhood will always be the people who will live and work in it,” says Fitzgibbons. “Piedmont Overlook will be a special place in which every stage of life is celebrated as rich and rewarding.”

Exciting year ahead

As construction comes to a close, community members and staff look forward to the peace of mind the addition of Piedmont Overlook will add to their lives. “This is an exciting time in the life our community,” says Fitzgibbons. “We are thrilled to bring the gold standard in retirement living to all levels of care at Windsor Run.”
