IT School Establishes Annual ‘Scarlett Scholarship’ for Veterans in Honor of His Late Daughter

MyComputerCareer has established its first annual, full-tuition scholarship for veterans and their families on Nov. 1, just ahead of Veterans Day, in honor of a veteran’s late daughter. Named after five-year-old Scarlett Middleton, the Scarlett Sunshine Memorial Scholarship will financially assist two students every year in their pursuit of a new career in information technology or cyber security.

Scarlett tragically lost her life to sepsis in 2018. Her father is a Senior Communications Officer with the US Marine Corps. MyComputerCareer team members met the Middleton family a few months after Scarlett’s passing, while volunteering with the Lifetime Network home improvement series Military Makeover.

“When we found out we were receiving a home renovation from Military Makeover, we felt so blessed and relieved after such a hard season for our family,” said Holly Middleton, Scarlett’s mother and founder of the nonprofit Scarlett’s Sunshine Foundation. “This MyComputerCareer scholarship furthers that feeling even more and we are so grateful for our daughter to be honored in this way. We often referred to Scarlett as our family’s sunshine, and this scholarship is the perfect way to spread her brightness and joy with other military families for years to come.”

Scarlett’s parents will select the scholarship recipients in January 2021. MyComputerCareer will contact and announce the recipients on its website and Facebook pages in early February 2021. The fund will cover full tuition for any MyComputerCareer program where students can become an IT professional in as little as four months regardless of skill or experience.

“The military community sacrifices so much for our nation’s freedom and safety and giving back to them has always been a cornerstone and important cause for us,” said Tony Galati, MyComputerCareer founder and CEO. “The Middleton family and their story stayed in our team’s hearts long after we met them and we’re honored to launch this scholarship to give back to others in the community and keep Scarlett’s memory alive.”

MyComputerCareer has a longstanding tradition of supporting military and veteran communities across the country. In addition to education, career placement and Military Makeover volunteer programs, MyComputerCareer sponsors the POW-MIA Freedom Car alongside Team Johnson Motorsports, a Pro Late Model stock car that races in NASCAR and other series to honor and raise awareness for service members that are or were missing in action or prisoners of war.

Prospective students can apply for the Scarlett Scholarship between Nov. 1 to Dec. 31, 2020. For more information, please visit mycomputercareer.edu/scarlettsscholarship/.
