Franklin Street Ben & Jerry’s Closes November 3 to Give Employees Time to Vote

Ongoing GOTV efforts encourage fans to get to the polls

The locally-owned Ben & Jerry’s in Chapel Hill is electing to stay closed this Election Day to encourage its staff to vote, and to encourage hungry fans to do the same.

And this tasty ice cream parlor is not stopping there. The Franklin Street Ben & Jerry’s continues to participate in virtual and in-person, socially distanced voting engagement efforts including voter registration, National Voter Registration Day events, and voter awareness events. The Scoop Shop also has literature and newsletters available, and has been posting regularly on its Facebook page to make sure fans and employees have all the information they need to get to the polls.

“Having a job should not be a barrier to voting. We want to give our staffers the time they need to head to the polls. As a business leader, I want to empower our staff through nonpartisan GOTV efforts,” says owner Antonio McBroom, a North Carolina native.

The Chapel Hill Scoop Shop, in partnership with an organization called Rejoice the Vote, is also hosting a Democracy Art Competition. Entries are currently in the judging stage and winners will be announced on Election Day. The virtual competition drew participants of all ages and styles of art.

Except for November 3rd, the Scoop Shop located at 102 W Franklin St in Chapel Hill is open from 1 P.M. to 10 P.M. daily.
