Epic Games, Inc., the developer of the popular video game “Fortnite,” announced Wednesday that four-time Latin GRAMMY award winner J Balvin will be the main act of its “Fortnitemares” virtual “Afterlife Party” concert.

J Balvin, Reggaeton’s Global Ambassador, will headline Fortnite’s no-combat space — Party Royale Mode – where players can watch Balvin perform some of his most popular tracks, including a new single with SECH, a fellow Latin artist, “La Luz.”

“I am always looking for innovative ways to connect with fans that have been so incredibly supportive of my career and music, as well as gain exposure to future fans. Partnering with Fortnite is an out of this world way to perform a concert in 2020,” J Balvin said in the release.

While the COVID-19 pandemic upended the traditional live concert and events business, Epic Games can host a virtual concert using its XR (cross reality) technology, which uses LED Walls and camera tracking to bring the performance to life.

Fortnite regularly features non-combat live events for players to interact and watch narrative cinematics, music videos and even concerts. EDM DJ Marshmello, rapper Travis Scott and K-pop boy band BTS have all been featured in the game’s main combat area for special collaborative events.

The event will take place on Oct. 31 at 9 p.m. EST. It can also be viewed on Houseparty, the social network app owned by Epic Games.
