UB Bancorp Appoints Dr. William Keyes to its Board

UB Bancorp announced on Friday that Dr. William Keyes IV has been appointed to the Board of Directors, according to a press release.

Keyes is the founder and president of the Institute for Responsible Citizenship, a Washington D.C.-nonprofit with the mission to “inspire and equip the nation’s best and brightest African American men to use their extraordinary talents to serve others.” The institute helps prepare African American male college students for internships and leadership positions in both the private and public sectors.

A native of Washington, North Carolina, Keyes graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was inducted into the Frank Porter Graham Honor Society and received the Harvey E. Beech Outstanding Alumni Award. He is the only person in the university’s history to earn a Ph.D. while serving on its board of trustees.

“We are extremely excited that Bill Keyes is joining our team. Bill’s vast experience in leadership development will serve as an excellent resource for both the Board and Management of the Bank. Dr. Keyes has a long and successful track record of mentoring students and graduates at the highest level, encouraging [them] to achieve their personal goals while also serving their communities,” US Bancorp CEO Rob Jones said in the release.

Union Bancorp, formerly known as as Union Bank, was founded in 1998 and operates 15 branches across North Carolina.

Shares of UB Bancorp (UBNC) were last trading near $10.01.
