The Duke University Talent Identification Program (Duke TIP) announced plans to permanently lay off 75 workers starting in 2021, according to a recent filing.

The North Carolina Department of Commerce received the notice of the impending job cuts from Duke TIP on Wednesday per the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act. This law requires employers to provide 60-day advance notice of closings or mass layoffs. Duke TIP’s layoffs are effective Jan. 6.

Duke TIP typically has 86 year-round employees and hires around 1,200 seasonal employees each year for the program, according to its website.

Duke TIP is a nonprofit organization for students grades 4 through 12 to help students assess the extent of their academic abilities and gain enrichment benefits.
