New Cool AF, Pandemic-Friendly Outdoor Fitness Concept Launches in Raleigh

10/8/20

fit RDU Begins with Downtown, Midtown and North Raleigh Classes

fit RDU has launched in Raleigh with the intent on being exactly different from the rest of the fitness world. The new concept combines exclusively outdoor classes with a body neutrality message: come as you are. The workouts are designed for people of any fitness level to come get a great sweat safely and without any pressure to live up to certain standards, constantly hit aggressive goals or be anyone beyond who they are in that moment.

“I want to remove the shame that is so often connected to exercise; there aren’t before and after photos or talk about bikini bods here,” said Libby Burton, who founded fit RDU this summer as a side hustle and passion project. “It’s beneficial for all of us – physically and mentally – to get out and move our bodies, especially right now with everything going on in our country. We should be able to do that with only positive self-talk. The body you have right now, is exactly the body you’re meant to have today. And getting up, getting motivated to attend a class, that’s amazing. Let’s focus on and celebrate that!”

fit RDU is setting itself apart in other ways too. Having fun is a core principle, and class participants will find a variety of smile-inducing add-ons from a Bohemian-styled lounge for registration in the park to motivational artwork and pop-up markets during classes. Creating community is also a central component of the brand, including giving back to great local causes and incorporating time for socially distant socializing during a few brewery-based workouts each month. Even the app, used to reserve spots in classes, allows people to connect so you can see when new “gym friends” are attending.

“It can feel awkward at first to exchange numbers with someone you met working out, but it’s also an amazing way to meet people. With the app, you can take more classes with those you’re bonding with and help bridge the gap from ‘gym friend’ to real world hang,” said Burton.

fit RDU classes are now being hosted in the mornings and evenings in Downtown Raleigh’s Lions Park, in Midtown at North Hills Park, and in North Raleigh at Honeycutt Park. They include fitYOGA, fitYOGA SCULPT, fitCORE and fitHIIT, with additional workouts launching in the coming months. As part of the concept’s launch from now until September, people can attend a class for only $10 or take advantage of the fitFounder Unlimited membership for only $99 per month.

Masks are mandatory before and after class and anytime when it may not be possible to socially distance. Participant's stations are always at least 8 feet apart from one another and safety remains top priority in all of fit RDU’s activities.
