Lowe’s, the home improvement retailer, announced on Monday that it’s offering an alternative option to celebrating Halloween during the COVID-19 pandemic by hosting drive-through curbside trick-or-treating events at its stores nationwide.
The company said trick-or-treaters could drive to their local Lowe’s store and receive a small candy-filled pumpkin. Lowe’s stores will host the curbside offering from 6-7 p.m. local time on Oct. 22 and Oct. 29. Spots can be reserved beginning Oct. 10 at Lowes.com/DIY.
During the coronavirus pandemic, Halloween is expected to look different, with the CDC recommending lower-risk activities such as Halloween-themed scavenger hunts with household members or moderate risk activities such as pre-filled grab-and-go goodie bags while adhering to social distances versus the traditional door-to-door trick-or-treating.
“We know that customers still want to celebrate Halloween, even if the holiday may look different for us this year,” Joe McFarland, Lowe’s vice president of stores, said in the release. “While the pandemic has changed many elements of everyday life, the tradition of trick-or-treating doesn’t have to be one of them.”
Lowe’s has pivoted to offer more curbside and online offerings as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. The retailer reported stronger-than-expected second-quarter earnings results, driven by a surge in e-commerce sales. The company recently announced an initiative to implement contactless pick-up lockers in stores nationwide for online orders.
Shares of Lowe’s closed at $168.54 a share, up $2.05.
