Kontoor Brands, the parent company of jeans brands Wrangler and Lee, announced a set of global sustainability goals on Tuesday to transform the denim production industry by addressing the environmental and social impact of its operations.

“Denim is known as being tough, durable and long-lasting. But the production process historically has been resource-intensive. We’re facing this challenge head-on by scrutinizing every aspect of the denim lifecycle and investing as needed to develop more sustainable processes,” Kontoor Brands CEO Scott Baxter said in the release.

Kontoor Brands outlined its goals under three pillars: the planet, products, and people. The planet category includes saving 10 billion liters of water by 2025, powering 100 percent of owned and operated facilities with renewable energy by 2025 and establishing a science-based climate target by 2022.

Meanwhile, Kontoor’s product goals include sourcing 100 percent sustainable raw materials, and its people center around investing in the communities they operate in and creating safe workplaces.

Kontoor’s goals align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Along with the goals, Kontoor also released its first sustainability report, showing the company’s global impacts during 2019.

Shares of Kontoor Brands, Inc. (KTB) were last trading up3.43 percent, or 81 cents, near $24.41 on Tuesday.
