Tanger Factory Outlet Centers, Inc., the operator of outlet shopping centers, said it’s joining other retailers by closing Thanksgiving Day due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Throughout this pandemic, we have put the best interest of our shoppers, retailers and team members as our priority. Our decision to close our centers on Thanksgiving Day will give everyone more time to enjoy the day with their loved ones before heading into the busy holiday season,” Tanger Outlets CEO Steven B. Tanger said in a press release.

This year, Tanger and its retail partners will start holiday shopping deals on Nov. 1, the earliest ever. The outlet shopping centers will also offer extended shopping hours throughout the holiday season.

“For the entire month of November, we’re offering special holiday sales and exclusive gifts for our shoppers. Proper health and safety protocols will be in place to keep our shoppers safe while enjoying all the fun and savings Tanger has to offer this holiday season,” COO and president Stephen Yalof added.

Tanger is also touting three ways for customers to shop, including in-person at its outlet locations, curbside pick-up locations and through its Virtual Shopper Concierge program.

Tanger Factory Outlets Centers, Inc. is a publicly-trade REIT that operates 38 outlet shopping centers across 20 states and in Canada. The REIT owns around 14.1 million square feet of retail space and has more than 2,700 leased stores occupied by 500 brands.

Shares of Tanger fell 18 cents, or 3.14 percent, to close at $5.55 on Thursday.
