Dave & Buster’s to Lay Off 229 Workers in North Carolina due to COVID-19

Dave & Buster’s Entertainment, the Dallas-headquartered restaurant and arcade chain, announced plans to permanently lay off 229 employees across three North Carolina locations due to the impacts of COVID-19.

The North Carolina Department of Commerce received the notice of the permanent layoffs from Dave & Buster’s per the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act. This law requires employers to provide 60-day advance notice of closings or mass layoffs. Dave & Buster’s layoffs are effective Nov. 8, the filing shows.

Out of the four restaurant locations in North Carolina, the company will lay off 92 workers at its Cary location, 79 workers in Winston-Salem and 58 at the Pineville location.

Dave & Buster’s currently operates 105 locations across the U.S. and Canada, according to its website.

Shares of Dave & Buster’s Entertainment Inc. (PLAY) are down 53 percent year-to-date. Shares were last trading up 8 cents near $18.52 on Thursday.
