EnPro Industries, Inc., a supplier of industrial components, announced that it hired Jerry L. Johnson as its senior vice president of strategy, corporate development and investor relations in a press release on Thursday.

Johnson joins EnPro’s executive ranks after spending 13 years as a founding member and partner of RLJ Equity Partners, a minority-owned private equity firm.

Johnson’s previous work experience includes serving as a White House Fellow, merchant banker for Donaldson, Lufkin, & Jenrette, and as a consultant at McKinsey & Company.

“Jerry brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our company from his years in merchant banking and private equity and I am delighted that he has joined our leadership team. As he steps in to lead our strategy, corporate development, and investor relations team, I am excited about the deep expertise he will contribute as we continue to execute on our portfolio growth strategy,” EnPro CEO Marvin Riley said in a statement.

Robert L. Johnson, the founder of Black Entertainment Television (BET) and chairman of RLJ Equity Partners, described Johnson as “an outstanding executive” who made a “major contribution” to the private equity firm.

At EnPro, Johnson, who holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Tennessee and an MBA from Harvard Business School, succeeds Chris O’Neal, who’d been in the role since 2015. O’Neal, who was promoted to CFO within the company’s sealing products segment, will work with Johnson on the transition.

EnPro’s (NPO) stock was last trading down 2.44 percent near $57.93 on Thursday.
