Tanger Factory Outlet Centers, Inc. is leveraging its expansive outdoor retail space to provide a space for voter registration in newly announced partnership with HeadCount, a non-profit aiming to increase voter registration among young people.
On Sept. 5, Tanger Outlets and HeadCount will feature socially-distanced voter registration stations at 24 of its open-air outlet centers across the U.S.
HeadCount is a non-partisan organization that’s known for registering young voters at concerts. Since 2004, the organization has registered over 650,000 voters.
“With most concerts canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we’re glad to be able to do our part in supporting this important work by activating our open-air shopping centers for civic engagement,” Tanger Outlets president and COO Stephen Yalof said in a statement.
“We are thrilled to be partnering with Tanger Outlets to get people registered to vote in time for the November election. Tanger’s national footprint will allow us to engage a broad number of potential voters and involve them in the political process,” Andy Bernstein, the executive director of HeadCount, said in the release.
Tanger Factory Outlets Centers, Inc. is a publicly-trade REIT that operates 38 outlet shopping centers across 20 states and in Canada. The REIT owns around 14.1 million square feet of retail space and has more than 2,700 leased stores occupied by 500 brands.
