Lowe’s will send 200 of its specially trained associates this week to staff stores in areas impacted by Hurricane Laura as communities begin to rebuild after the storm.
“These associates are specially trained and voluntarily leave their home stores to serve at stores affected by storms. They will provide additional customer support and give fellow associates impacted by the hurricane a chance to focus on their families. The Emergency Response Teams are deploying from stores located in Florida, Mississippi, Texas and Louisiana to support those hardest hit by Hurricane Laura,” the company said in the release on Tuesday.
Another 100 ERT associates will travel to those stores the week of Sept. 14.
As of Tuesday, Lowe’s deployed more than 3,000 truckloads of emergency supplies to more than 450 stores in the storm’s path.
Lowe’s also pledged to donate $1 million to support hurricane relief efforts. Right away, the retailer contributed $500,000 to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief.
“Lowe’s works to make homes better for all every day, and our donations will help the American Red Cross and other nonprofits respond to critical needs in communities impacted by recent natural disasters, including funds to provide shelter and housing,” CEO Marvin Ellison said in a statement.
Ellison added that Lowe’s is “committed to providing relief for associates and customers in a time when we know our neighbors need us now more than ever.”
Lowe’s operates around 2,200 home improvement and hardware stores and employs approximately 300,000 associates.
Lowe’s (LOW), which has seen its shares surge more than 32 percent this year, saw its stock close down 24 cents, or 0.14 percent, at $167.35 on Tuesday.
