“No Place on Earth I Would Rather Be” Than Windsor Run

9/1/20

“Based on the exceptional work of Windsor Run’s dedicated team of professionals, along with the support of residents, we have managed the challenges of COVID-19 very well,” says George Comfort, Executive Director of the Erickson Living retirement community. “For those looking for an engaging, safe environment to live and a community where essential services are right at your fingertips, there is no better time to call Windsor Run home.”

Community member Nicky Driscoll agrees.

“Everyone is working so hard to keep us healthy and happy,” she says. “I keep patting myself on the back for being smart enough to pick Windsor Run. There is no place on earth I would rather be. Thank you to everyone on staff; you are truly my heroes.”

People who live at Windsor Run happily share their experiences with family and friends. As a result, the sales team has seen a significant increase in requests for information, reservations and new moves.

“Our residents are communicating just how safe life is at Windsor Run and the many efforts taken on their behalf to keep the community engaged and happy,” says Director of Sales Ryan Barkley.

“My wife Eileen and I repeatedly tell our friends and relatives that we feel very well protected by Windsor Run,” says Buck Gatewood, one of the community’s first residents.

Above and beyond

Every effort has been made to keep COVID-19 out of Windsor Run. Trained team members carefully screen all visitors at the community’s secure gated entrance and thoroughly disinfect clubhouses, amenities and other high-touch areas. Residents, employees and visitors continue to wear masks and physically distance. All of these important considerations are clearly communicated to residents with flyers, phone calls and updates on the Windsor Run in-house TV channel.

For staff, the goal is to help community members thrive. As a result, every effort is made to celebrate community spirit and provide entertainment options that would not otherwise be available to the residents if they still lived in their former houses. Special ice cream treats are hand-delivered on steamy summer days, and special holidays such as Mother’s Day and the Fourth of July were recognized with new social-distancing celebrations, including parades, signs around campus and gifts.

“The staff works very hard keeping us in smiles with games and activities to entertain us,” says community member John Roark.

Gretchen Hazen agrees with her neighbor. “Every staff member is doing a fantastic job, both in their usual roles and in activities they don’t normally do,” she says. “They remain cheerful and helpful, just as they always are, I can’t praise them enough. George Comfort is doing an excellent job of keeping us informed, responding to questions and making it so we need not worry about a thing.”

Each Windsor Run department works carefully to provide information and, in many cases, entertainment options to community members. Fitness Coordinator Timothy Dean helps keep residents physically fit by posting at-home workout videos on the My Erickson app. The resident life team creates and distributes a weekly newsletter, Community Connections, filled with important updates, suggested activities to keep residents entertained, comics and inspirational quotes.

“I admire and appreciate all that the staff are doing to protect our ‘island,’” says community member John Gray. “When I think of all the logistical, communications, staffing and other management decisions that have been made, I am in awe. I applaud the commitment to all of us and the Erickson mission.”

Staying healthy

While the staff ensure that Windsor Run community members remain engaged and connected, the on-site medical center, staffed by full-time physicians and other medical experts, provides a level of geriatric expertise that is invaluable.

“Having the medical center so readily accessible is a real plus,” says community member Robert “Bob” Mack. “I had my first-ever video doctor’s visit. And although it was not in person, it was complete and thorough.”

“Windsor Run’s on-site physicians review all federal, state and local guidelines to make sure the community doesn’t just meet their requirements but often exceeds them,” says Comfort. “So even now, when life has to operate a little differently, we’re finding new ways to keep residents and staff well cared for and connected.”

‘Housing market remains strong’

As a result of these positive experiences, the sales team is witnessing a sharp increase in demand.

“Fortunately, the Charlotte area housing market remains strong,” says Barkley. “We continue to safely move new residents into their new homes at Windsor Run.”

Since June, Windsor Run’s sales team has been scheduling on-campus visits as the result of a secure screening program and conducting home visits, depending on the comfort level of each individual. For those who prefer, the team uses the video conferencing app Zoom to “tour” a prospective resident’s current house to make suggestions and help prepare them to sell.

As the end of 2020 draws near, Barkley believes that the life enjoyed by Windsor Run residents will continue to draw a record number of new residents to the community.
