Julie Chávez Rodríguez Joins North Carolina Roundtable on Joe Biden’s Agenda for the Latino Community

8/6/20

Today, Biden for President held a North Carolina virtual roundtable on Joe Biden’s Agenda for the Latino Community. The campaign’s Senior Advisor Julie Chávez Rodríguez joined State House candidate Ricky Hurtado, Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioner Susan Rodriguez-McDowell, and DNC Member John Verdejo to discuss Biden’s plan to advance the Latino community in North Carolina and across the country.

"Joe Biden knows the Latino community, and we know him. We know that we share deep values of faith, of family, of community," said Senior Advisor Julie Chávez Rodríguez. “He will be ready on day one to implement the changes that we need, especially given how devastating the most recent events have been to our community. Right now, Latino families across the country are facing the highest rate of COVID infection and unprecedented job losses as a result of Trump's failed response to the pandemic."

"Education is on the ballot this November. Health care is on the ballot this November. Justice is on the ballot this November," said candidate for NC House District 63 Ricky Hurtado. "When we think about the priorities of our community and what's going to really lead us forward, there's only one clear choice and I'm excited to make sure our community's voice is heard."

“If we can get the public option that Biden's plan includes—investing in preventative care, access to healthy food—those kinds of things that Biden wants to bring in will mean a lot to the people of Mecklenburg County, especially our Latino community,” said Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioner Susan Rodriguez-McDowell.

"Joe Biden will make far reaching investments to end health disparities by race," said DNC Member John Verdejo. "Latinos make up less than 10% of North Carolina's population, but yet 44% of COVID cases."
