Award-Winning Boutique PR Agency Establishes Brick-and-Mortar Offices at The Bunkhouse

ATCO Properties & Management, developer of Camp North End, announced today that it has completed a long-term lease expansion with award-winning boutique public relations agency Rachel Sutherland Communications.

Founded in 2010 by former Charlotte Observer style editor Rachel Sutherland, the agency specializes in public relations, content strategy, marketing and social media for a variety of hospitality and nonprofit clients. Its current client roster includes people and brands such as James Beard-nominated chef Greg Collier, Raydal Hospitality (Sabor Latin Street Grill, Three Amigos Mexican Cantina & Grill, La Caseta), Order/Fire, What The Fries food truck, Arts+ and The Gambrell Foundation, to name a few.

Rachel Sutherland Communications previously occupied one of Camp North End’s vintage Airstream units. With the new expansion agreement, the agency will grow its footprint to 400 square feet inside The Bunkhouse at the Mount.

The interior of the space will feature design elements like exposed steel beams and wooden trusses, and the exterior of the Bunkhouse building is clad in natural bark siding from Western North Carolina.

“We are thrilled that Rachel Sutherland Communications has grown during their time as a tenant at Camp North End, and we are very pleased we can accommodate them as they expand their business,” said Damon Hemmerdinger, co-president of ATCO Properties & Management, developer of Camp North End. “Companies like RSC know their office makes a statement about their brand, and space at Camp North End is a powerful brand enhancer for forward-thinking tenants.”

“From the moment we set foot on campus at Camp North End more than two years ago, we knew we had found our place,” says Rachel Sutherland. “Our team tripled in size during that time, and it was getting crowded in our Airstream. We are so pleased that we were able to find another space at Camp North End that allows us to stretch out a bit and continue to grow.”

The announcement comes shortly after ATCO and its joint venture partner, Shorenstein Properties LLC, completed construction at the Gama Goat Building at 1701 North Graham Street. Ownership celebrated the grand opening of the building’s three of its four food stalls, including Raydal Hospitality’s La Caseta, farm-to-table favorite Bleu Barn Bistro, and Nagahama-style noodle shop Saru by Bow Ramen.

In addition, James Beard nominated Chef Greg Collier’s newest restaurant, Leah & Louise, launched in March and recently re-opened its dining room with limited seating and reservations. Other recent openings at the site include specialty cocktail company Black Moth Bars and frozen dessert stand Popbar.

Other major tenants at Camp North End include solar energy company Pine Gate Renewables; analytics firm CloudGenera; Ally Bank innovation team TM Studio; nonprofit Junior Achievement of Central Carolinas; arts organization Goodyear Arts; used bookstore That’s Novel Books; gourmet bakery Wentworth & Fenn; paper goods company Good Postage; boutique fitness concept bloc.; coffee company Hex Coffee Roasters; loose leaf tea bar Birch Fine Tea; design consulting firm Wily; interactive gallery and creative studio space Blk Mrkt; boutique hair salon eXplicit Salon; creative studio and art gallery DUPP&SWAT; contemporary art and home décor designer Windy O’Connor; coworking space Hygge Coworking; and custom motorcycle parts company Prism Supply. The campus also houses a set of industrial users.

Camp North End is also leading the way in terms of healthy building design. Earlier this year, the development received Fitwel Community Certification from the Center for Active Design (CfAD), a national building standard that focuses on optimizing holistic health benefits in neighborhood-scale projects.

Tommy Mann, development director at Camp North End, represented ATCO in the transaction. A Cushman & Wakefield team led by Jessica Brown, David Dorsch and Grant Keyes are the exclusive leasing agents for the office component of the property.
