Today, the Bureau of Labor Statistics released new job numbers that put North Carolina’s unemployment rate at 7.6 percent, underscoring the devastating toll that COVID-19 has had on our state’s workers and the United States economy. While the unemployment rate dropped in June, there are nearly twice as many North Carolinians out of work this year than in 2019. In response, Biden for President North Carolina State Director L.T. McCrimmon issued the following statement:
“These new numbers show improvement, but there are still hundreds of thousands of families who have been hit by staggering loss in this crisis. Joe Biden has released a sweeping plan to address the dual public health and economic crises of the COVID-19 pandemic and build our economy back better, providing working families with the tools they need to succeed. By expanding broadband and investing in infrastructure and transportation, Joe Biden’s build back better plan will create jobs and allow every North Carolinian to participate in the economy of the future. North Carolinians have a choice this November — Joe Biden, who’s proven he can help our economy bounce back through strong, steady leadership, or Donald Trump, a leader who’s proven nothing beyond his incompetence.”
