RTCC Webinar Explores “Beneficial Electrification: A Utility Perspective”

7/13/20

Sponsored by the Research Triangle Cleantech Cluster (RTCC), the July 16th webinar will define the process of converting direct fossil fuel-powered devices to electric power, a new concept that reduces carbon emissions, increases efficiency, and lowers costs

Together with two of its member organizations, the Research Triangle Cleantech Cluster (RTCC), the industry-led consortium for cleantech in North Carolina, will present a free webinar on “Beneficial Electrification: A Utility Perspective,” to explore the emerging trend of converting devices traditionally powered by fossil fuels, such as furnaces, to operate using electric power. As utilities across the country seek to decrease carbon emissions through the increased use of electric power, beneficial electrification has the potential to transform the consumption of electric power in North Carolina, and beyond.

The free webinar, presented by RTCC, is scheduled for Thursday, July 16th from 2pm to 3pm, and is part of RTCC’s mission to bring together leaders from utilities, business, government, academia, and nonprofit agencies to accelerate the growth of the Research Triangle region’s cleantech economy. Panelists include Jim Musilek, director of innovation & business development for North Carolina’s Electric Cooperatives, and Dr. Mike Mazzola, director of the UNC-Charlotte Energy Production & Infrastructure Center (EPIC).

“Our RTCC utility members are leading the effort in transforming the generation of electric power to reduce carbon emissions, increase efficiency, and lower costs for energy consumers,” explained Susan Sanford, executive director of the Research Triangle Cleantech Cluster. “Beneficial electrification programs have the potential to significantly reduce the impact of power generation on the environment.”

BENEFICIAL ELECTRIFICATION: A UTILITY PERSPECTIVE

The upcoming RTCC webinar will present a dialog on how the process of beneficial electrification is being promoted by thought leaders in the utility industry, how they are leveraging new technologies to implement their vision of increased electrification, as well as highlights of successful projects.

Sponsored by RTCC on the Webex online platform, the webinar is free to attend, but advance registration is recommended. An opportunity for virtual networking will be provided through the Webex chat function, enabling participants to connect with panelists and other attendees during the webinar.
