Black Moth Bars to launch new retail concept inside vintage Airstream in the Boileryard

In the latest in a string of major new retail leases at Camp North End,ATCO Properties & Management announced today that it has finalized an agreement for specialty bartending company Black Moth Bars, making it the 10th food & beverage retailer to join the one million square-foot site.

This latest deal follows last week’s announcement that Raydal Hospitality’s new food stall concept La Caseta will join the retail lineup on Keswick Avenue, the street that cuts through the Gama Goat Building.

Founded in 2018 by owner & operators Rachel Hopkins and James Little, Black Moth Bars specializes in bringing hand crafted, locally-sourced specialty cocktails to special events such as weddings, corporate parties, and Camp North End’s successful Next Plate dinner series in 2019.

Black Moth Bars’ new 200 square-foot space will pay homage to its roots as a mobile business by operating out of a renovated vintage Airstream camper in the Boileryard. Menu items will include six unique seasonal cocktails using local North Carolina spirits and ingredients like bourbon, boiled peanuts and a rotating seasonal punch.

The Airstream features an outdoor patio area with seating and regular disinfecting during operating hours. Seating arrangements have been reduced and spaced in accordance with North Carolina’s phased re-opening requirements, allowing ample room for visitors to enjoy their drinks outside. It is expected to open in conjunction with North Carolina’s phase two reopening schedule in mid- to late June.

Black Moth Bars is also partnering with the Piedmont Culinary Guild, a nonprofit organization created to strengthen the culinary and agricultural community throughout the Carolinas. A portion of their proceeds will benefit the organization.

On why Black Moth Bars chose Camp North End, Hopkins explained that the move aligned perfectly with their brand and image. “Camp North End is such a unique experience, there’s nothing anywhere like it here in the city,” she said. “We fell in love with the vintage feel and ATCO’s commitment to history and reusing these incredible buildings. We are super excited about our new Airstream space and look forward to serving you this summer.”

Tommy Mann, Development Director at Camp North End, added: “we are thrilled to welcome Black Moth Bars to our Camp North End family and support the growth of a local small business committed to quality and craft.” “This creative concept strategically relies on outdoor, open-air seating, which will be increasingly important in a post-COVID-19 environment.”

In addition to Black Moth Bars, Camp North End’s other notable culinary tenants include James Beard award semifinalist chef Greg Collier’s new restaurant concept, Leah & Louise, James Beard award nominee chef Samantha Allen’s gourmet bakery Wentworth and Fenn, taproom Free Range Brewing, loose-leaf tea bar Birch Fine Tea, healthy food purveyor Chop & Chisel, Noda Company Canteen, coffee bar Hex Coffee Roasters, and food stalls La Caseta, Bleu Barn Bistro and Bow Ramen (opening in June 2020).

Camp North End is also leading the way in terms of healthy building design. In January 2020, the development was one of four trailblazing developments in North America to receive the first Fitwel Community Certification from the Center for Active Design (CfAD), a national building standard that focuses on optimizing holistic health benefits in neighborhood-scale projects.

A Cushman & Wakefield team led by Jessica Brown, David Dorsch and Grant Keyes are the exclusive leasing agents for the office component of the property.
