USO of NC Hosts Medal of Honor Recipient Gary Beikirch

5/7/20

Medal of Honor Recipient Gary Beikirch will share his remark ablet journey during a virtual Warrior Reset webinar offered by the USO of NC in conjunction with the Congressional Medal of Honor Society Veterans Outreach Program, Friday, May 8 at 10:00 AM.

Beikirch is a former U.S. Army Sergeant and Special Forces Combat Medic who received the Medal of Honor for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty on April 1, 1970.

While serving as a medical aidman, Detachment B-24, Company B, Beikirch distinguished himself during the defense of Camp Dak Seang, Vietnam. While assigned as a team medic in the remote Montagnard village of Dak Seang in the Central Highlands near the border of Laos, a massive force of North Vietnamese troops attacked the camp resulting in high American and Montagnard casualties. Ignoring his own personal safety and suffering multiple wounds in combat, Beikirch rescued numerous American, Vietnamese, and Montagnard casualties. For his actions during the battle of Dak Seang, Beikirch was awarded the Medal of Honor on 15 October 1973.

Beikirch’s life after the military continues to be remarkable and marked by resiliency and service. Through his work with the Veterans Outreach Program, Beikirch provides support and mentorship to at-risk veterans on surviving and thriving in a post-military civilian world; and provide critical information on resiliency, transition and wellness issues.

The Veterans Outreach Program is designed to target resilience and wellness challenges faced by veterans and active duty service members. Beikirch has partnered with the USO of NC for this webinar helping to address the mental health, stress, and behavioral health issues associated with a post-military life.

Beikirch will be speaking as a guest presenter as part of the USO of NC’s virtual high impact programming during COVID-19 and the Congressional Medal of Honor Society’s Veterans Outreach Program addressing resiliency and leadership.

The USO of NC and Veterans Outreach Program is on the front lines providing support to public and private sector organizations who are positively impacting those who have served or are still serving our country. Medal of Honor recipients are committed to serving their fellow brothers-in-arms and personally engage with organizations’ veteran programs through motivation, inspiration, and providing positive examples.
