USO of North Carolina Responds to Urgent COVID19 Need

4/30/20

The USO of North Carolina is responding to meet the needs of the military and their families by delivering critical supplies, impactful services, and virtual programming to military communities and families across our state by joining the #GivingTuesdayNow Global Day of Giving and Unity.

#GivingTuesdayNow is a global day of giving and unity, set to take place on May 5, 2020 as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19. The day is designed to drive an influx of generosity, citizen engagement, business and philanthropy activation, and support for communities and nonprofits around the world.?

At a time when we are all experiencing the pandemic, generosity is what brings people of all races, faiths, and political views together across the globe. Generosity gives everyone power to make a positive change in the lives of others and is a fundamental value anyone can act on. It is a day for everyone around the world to stand together and give back in all ways, no matter who or where we are.

The USO of North Carolina is partnering with #GivingTuesdayNow to further support that we are all in this together and we will all get through this together. Our military is being called on to combat the spread of COVID-19 with other first responders and provide research, testing, and treatment while building portable medical facilities, delivering supplies, and providing security. We need them, and they need us!

The USO of NC has pivoted vital resources across its entire enterprise in an approach that helps care for military members and their families, while also aiding in reducing the spread of the virus.

“These changes all aim to serve one purpose: to make sure that we are connecting our service members to family, home and country throughout this critical time in the world,” said Jim Whaley, CEO and President for the USO of North Carolina. “It is my privilege to work within a team, alongside our community and corporate partners who recognize the importance of this collaborative effort so that we can better support our service members and their families.”

Since the COVID-19 outbreak occurred, the USO of NC has supported over 6,000 Soldiers, 5,400 Marines and 2,200 Airmen, providing them morale enhancing supplies, snacks, and essential hygiene items, including a mobile projector screen for movies and gaming units to sustain their health and wellbeing during this critical time. The USO of NC also supported single military servicemembers with meals due to the closure of installation facilities, providing over 7,000 meals: pop-up pantries and food drops to over 1000 low movement/quarantined zones at military installations.
