RTA & RTCC to Highlight New Mobility & Connected Transportation Options for NC

Regional Transportation Alliance (RTA), the regional business voice on transportation, and the Research Triangle Cleantech Cluster (RTCC), the industry-led consortium for cleantech in North Carolina, have partnered to present the “Innovations & Solutions Series” on new developments in connected transportation and automated mobility in NC’s Research Triangle region. The free two-day event will be presented in an online webinar format on Wednesday, April 15th and Thursday, April 16th from 2:00pm to 3:30pm both days.

The event will also highlight a host of initiatives in the region and across North Carolina, with presentations by leading transportation experts from member companies and state agencies. The event agenda includes:

Wednesday, April 15 (2pm – 3:30pm): Innovative approaches for intersections, freeways, & transit
Dr. Joseph Hummer, PE, state traffic management engineer with NCDOT, on dynamic left turn intersections (DLTi) and safest feasible intersection design (SaFID) selection charts
• Larry Sutherland, PE, national technical director of highways for WSP, on single-ramp systems for general purpose and managed lanes
• Taruna Tayal, mid-Atlantic regional applied technology manager with VHB, will provide an overview of the RTA Freeway And Street-based Transit (FAST) study being conducted in concert with GoTriangle and NCDOT

Thursday, April 16 (2pm – 3:30pm): Automated mobility & connected transportation
• Dr. Stuart Ginn, medical director of WakeMed Innovations, on drones and other emerging mobility systems in healthcare
• Joshua Dodson, Internet of Things (IoT) sales specialist at Cisco Systems, on secure devices and computing to support vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technology for improved operations and safety

“RTA’s Innovation & Solutions Series provides an opportunity to hear new ways of thinking about mobility amidst change and uncertainty, and several ways the Research Triangle is embracing emerging transportation concepts,” said Joe Milazzo II, RTA executive director.

“RTCC is proud to partner with RTA to host this forum on automated transportation and mobility innovations, which will play a key role in the cleantech economy of our region and our state,” said Susan Sanford, executive director at RTCC.

The series is free to attend, but advance registration is required, as space is limited. Registration includes access to both Wednesday and Thursday presentations.
