With retail leasing activity continuing at a brisk pace at Camp North End,ATCO Properties & Management announced today that it has signed another notable creative company to its tenant roster: independent paper goods company Good Postage.
Good Postage, which specializes in hand-drawn illustrations for craft greeting cards printed locally in Charlotte, has finalized a 650 square-foot lease at the Bunkhouse in Camp North End’s Mount district. When it opens in early April 2020, the new space will be a working art studio for illustrations and a vintage Chandler and Price letterpress, and will include a retail space, consultation space for custom stationery and invitations, and a classroom space for small groups.
In addition, the space will serve as the primary location for Good Postage’s wholesale orders department, and for local businesses to order illustrations for items such as packaging, menu illustration, wallpaper design, labels, and branding. The interior will feature vintage and eco-friendly design elements, and the exterior of the Bunkhouse building is clad in natural bark siding from Western North Carolina.
Founded in late 2017 by mother-daughter team Karen and Jane Manfredi, Good Postage started as an online-only business in Asheville, North Carolina. Jane, who graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), creates all of the art for Good Postage, while Karen serves as the editor and business manager of the company.
“Our goal is to create an interactive experience where people can shop for beautiful, locally-created paper goods and learn new skills from our in-store classes and experiences,”Karen Manfredi said. “With space for retail, wholesale, and classrooms, our new location will allow us to expand several pillars of our business all under one roof.”
Jane Manfredi added: “We love historic buildings, and Camp North End’s creative vibe is unlike anything else in the City of Charlotte right now. It will be fun and inspiring to work in this environment every day, and we’re thrilled to be opening our doors to the public this spring.”
This latest commitment at Camp North End comes as Good Postage gains attention in the stationery industry across North America. The company found early success participating in numerous trade shows, such as the National Stationery Show in New York City and regional curated retail markets. Over 50 independent gift, card and bookstores carry Good Postage across the United States, including stationery & gift retailer Paper Source. Additionally, current wholesale partnerships include grocery chain Trader Joe’s and Canadian wholesaler distributor Paper E. Clips, which provides paper good products, stationery and greeting cards to thousands of independent retailers and national chains such as Indigo Books and Mastermind Toys.
The arrival of Good Postage continues the leasing spree at Camp North End in recent weeks. Over the last several months, ATCO has signed multiple new tenants at the site, including decision analytics firm CloudGenera, used bookstore That’s Novel Books, and boutique fitness concept bloc. In addition, Camp North End will also welcome five new food and beverage tenants to the site in March 2020, including James Beard-nominated chef Greg Collier’s new restaurant, Leah & Louise; taproom Free Range Brewing; gourmet bakery Wentworth & Fenn; Nagahama-style noodle shop Bow Ramen; and farm-to-table purveyor Bleu Barn Bistro.
In January 2020, Camp North End also received Fitwel Community Certificationfrom the Center for Active Design (CfAD), a national building standardthat focuses on optimizing holistic health benefits in neighborhood-scale projects.
“Camp North End is curating one of the most dynamic tenant mixes in the City of Charlotte today,” said Tommy Mann, Development Director at Camp North End. “The project has resonated with a diverse range of innovative companies and creative small businesses.
