New Year, New You

2/3/20

The new year is upon us and that means millions of people are amped up and ready to begin their new health regime. This new health regime may be a fad diet, self-care, mental health, or a plethora of other ideas for a healthier lifestyle. No matter what your health regime includes, it all starts with being healthier.

As a family lawyer, I can attest that being healthy isn’t exactly at the top of my to-do list, with my busy and stressed-packed schedule. However, studies show that being healthy improves your mentality and makes you a more positive person, which in turn can make me a better attorney for my clients and why wouldn’t I want to be the best possible version of myself for my clients? So, I started educating myself on health and started leading a healthier lifestyle. Now that I have started down this path, I wanted to share my revelations with others.

What is the secret to being healthier and losing weight? It is easier than you think…eat less, move more. That is it!

Now that you know the secret, here are some suggestions to master a healthier lifestyle:

  • Start Slow—slow and steady wins the race, right? If you start a very strict diet, workout several times a week and attempt to drink gallons of water each week, the likelihood of you being successful long term with your health journey is very slim. You need to start slow. Perhaps start with cutting back some carbs each day or doing 2 workouts per week for a period of 30 minutes. Maybe starting slow means drinking 10 cups of water per day and doing yoga every morning. Whatever it is, do a few small things to start and then add to it as the weeks go on. Eventually, you will establish a routine that will help you remain healthy for the long haul.
  • Drink More (water)—The human body is made up of over 50% water. That means the body needs to be replenished with water often. You know the golden rule, drink 8 glasses of water a day. Also, drink a glass of water before each meal and it will help you control your portion sizes.
  • Eat More Veggies—Attempt to eat veggies at each meal. Veggies are full of necessary nutrients and your skin will look fabulous! And who doesn’t want better looking skin?
  • Move More—Diet is only part of being healthier, another part is exercise. Find a workout routine that is good for you. There are so many types of workouts available, so find what works for you and try to go 2-3 times a week. A good way to hold yourself responsible is to find a buddy to workout with, or an accountability partner.
