David Furman-designed Centro Railyard part of transformative mixed-use development in South End neighborhood

Premier multifamily property manager RKW RESIDENTIAL announces the launch of leasing at one of Charlotte’s most anticipated new apartment projects. Centro Railyard is the city’s first micro-unit community and part of the significant RailYard South End mixed-use development.

Designed by renowned Charlotte architect David Furman and Axiom Architecture, the five-story Centro Railyard includes 91 units, two-thirds of which are micro-units. The micro-units consist of 400-square-foot studio apartments. The project also has a selection of larger two-bedroom units. Select apartments feature balconies.

A partnership between two Charlotte-based real estate companies, Centro Cityworks and Ascent Real Estate Capital, is developing Centro Railyard. The project name is a nod to Charlotte’s rich rail history, with the design incorporating a palette of masonry, ornamental steel and glass into a cohesive and contemporary look.

Centro Railyard is scheduled for completion in April 2020.

“We are thrilled to partner with the developers and bring this brand-new product to market,” said RKW President Marcie Williams. “As Charlotte’s core neighborhoods continue to evolve, the demand for new living options intensifies. We believe the micro-unit apartments at Centro Railyard will be a major hit with young professionals and others seeking attainable rental options.”

The comprehensive RailYard mixed-use development opened in 2019 and is generating tremendous excitement in the city. Tenants include Allstate, Ernst & Young, OrangeTheory and WeWork. RailYard includes two 160,000-square-foot office buildings; four restaurant spaces – including neighborhood market and deli Rhino Market; a 2,500-square-foot fitness center with locker rooms and two rooftop sky terraces. The development is also promoting an active lifestyle through its formal bike-sharing program and proximity to the 4.2-mile Rail Trail.

“Our residents will enjoy an unparalleled lifestyle at Centro Railyard, which is bringing a combination of quality and convenience in the heart of the South End neighborhood,” said Ascent Real Estate Partners Asset Manager Caci Cambruzzi Jaeger. “With the team at RKW RESIDENTIAL at the helm, we look forward to a highly successful lease-up.”

Ascent Real Estate Capital targets retail, office, mixed-use and multifamily properties adjacent to major public and private investments in Charlotte’s infill submarkets. For more information, visit https://ascentrealestatecapital.com/.
