New Music, New Food, New Drink Offerings for the New Year
Unscripted Durham, a new and boutique hospitality concept for the progressive, creative traveler, is excited to announce a hot new lineup of live music performances, curated cocktail tastings and one-of-a-kind entertainment in the hotel’s Bar & Lounge for 2020. Located on the street level with views of W. Parrish Street, the open and inviting space provides an energetic atmosphere for Durham residents and visitors to soak in live, local music and enjoy unique, flavorful dishes and craft cocktails after hours.

We look forward to welcoming the community in during the colder months and offering them a fun, new way to warm up this winter.”
Kicking off this week, Unscripted is serving up a full menu of seasonal plates and shareables, from Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes and Fullsteam Roasted Chicken, to local favorites like the Crispy Chicken Sandwich and BBQ Jackfruit Sliders. Creative winter cocktails include the Fresh Start, made with Hendrick’s gin, celery-pear nectar, falernum spiced syrup, fresh lime and celery ribbons; the New Fashioned, a twist on the classic featuring fig-honey syrup and fig bitters; and the Quiet Storm, featuring local Krupnikas honey spiced liqueur, fernet branca, iconic kiss purple ube syrup, fresh lime, ginger beer, orange peel; to name a few.
A hot spot for late night fun, Unscripted Durham celebrates inclusivity and diversity through curated music and local partnerships that help bring the city’s culture to life. Kicking off in January, the hotel is now home to a series of new and dynamic Durham-inspired lifestyle events, including:
- Live Music – every Wednesday and Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m., and Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. to midnight, featuring local artists like Alexandra Valladares & Viajeros Melodiosos, The Wiley Fosters and more. The music is always free to enjoy, and attendees also receive 50 percent off small plates during the set, as well as complimentary parking.
- Traditional Bourbon Tasting with High West– Wednesday, Jan. 8 from 6 to 8 p.m., featuring four smooth bourbons, such as the High West Rendezvous Rye and High West American Prairie, paired with four specially crafted small plates and live music. Tickets are $50 and spaces are limited.
- Scotch & Whiskey Tasting with legendary distillers Jameson and The Glenlivet – Tuesday, Jan. 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. For $50, attendees will enjoy live music as they sip five different fan favorites such as the Jameson Caskmates Stout Edition and indulge in delicious small plate pairings.
- A special performance by one of hip hop’s most influential artists DJ Terminator X from Public Enemy – Sunday, Jan. 19. The award-winning artist, who is receiving a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in April, will be spinning classic soul, funk, and R&B records at no cost to the public from 9:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.
- J Vineyards Wine Tasting – Thursday, Jan. 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. – Kicking off promptly at 6:30 p.m., attendees will try delicious California wines like sparkling rosé vin gris, pinot gris and pinot noir with paired small plates. Sold out.
- Ponysaurus Brewery Beer Tasting – Thursday, Jan. 30 from 6 to 8 p.m., showcasing the local brewery’s most popular brews and some new seasonal additions alongside small bites. Guests can enjoy tasting regional beers as well as live music for $25 per person.
For those “New Year, New You” enthusiasts looking to keep their resolutions this year, Unscripted and Bull City Running are proud to present RUNSCRIPTED IN 2020: a New Year’s Resolution Treadmill Challenge on Saturday, Jan. 25 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. A treadmill will be set up in the lobby facing downtown Durham, and for $20, participants will have 20 minutes to burn as many calories as they can to help stick to resolutions to be healthier in the new year. While all participants will receive a $10 gift card from Unscripted and a $10 gift card to Bull City Running, the runner with the most calories burned will receive a grand prize of a complimentary staycation to rest and recharge.
