Capitala Finance Corp. reported third quarter net investment income of $3 million, or 18 cents per share, missing estimates of 24 cents per share, the company said in a statement released after-market Monday.
The Charlotte-based business development firm’s net investment earnings were down from $3.9 million in the third quarter of last year. Net realized gains decreased to $12,000 this quarter from $6.3 million last year.
“We anticipate closing several new investments prior to year-end, providing support to net investment income after two quarters of net repayments,” said Joseph Alala, Capitala’s chief executive officer.
Total investment income for the third quarter was $10.1 million, compared to $11.5 million in the third quarter of last year. The company had $13.9 million in new investments and a weighted average yield on third quarter investments of 10.6 percent.
