Curtiss-Wright, a design and manufacturing company, released its third-quarter results after market Wednesday, led by a 17 percent increase in sales.

The company recorded $614.9 million in revenue in the third quarter, an increase of 3 percent versus the prior year.

“We generated solid third-quarter results which exceeded our expectations, led by 17 percent sales growth in our defense markets and improved profitability in the commercial/industrial and defense segments,” said CEO David Adams.

Defense growth increased because of high sales in computing equipment in aerospace and naval defense, the company said in the press release.

Higher segment operating income and lower corporate expenses led to the company recording a net income of $82.5 million, beating estimates by 6.5 percent and exceeding last year’s third quarter net income by $8 million.

The company reported adjusted earnings per share of $1.95, beating analysts’ estimates by 12 cents according to Bloomberg data.

For the full-year, Curtiss-Wright is expecting sales growth to range from four to five percent. The company also raised its forecast for earnings for 2019 and now expects adjusted earnings of $7.15 to $7.25 per share.

“Overall, we anticipate delivering another solid operational performance this year led by strong margin expansion and solid free cash flow generation,” Adams said.

Shares of Curtiss-Wright were trading at $135.10 on Thursday, up $4.06.
