Natures Crops has partnered with California-based Blue Pacific Flavors to produce ahiflower oil, a plant-derived omega that can be used in milk alternatives, the company said in a press release Thursday.
The oil has high levels of nutrients, including omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. The production of the oil marks the first time a product of this type has been targeted for inclusion in foods, the company said in the statement.
Ahiflower oil will be available for formulating into beverages such as oat, soy and nut milks.
“Our partnership with Blue Pacific Flavors means their outstanding ingredient solutions for plant-based foods will bring the benefits of ahiflower to more consumers,” said Natures Crops President and CEO Andrew Hebard.
Natures Crops is a manufacturer of specialty oils with operations in Canada and the United Kingdom. The company is headquartered in Winston-Salem.
