Windsor Run was proud to participate in the 2019 Chef Wars Competition, sponsored by Shepherd’s Center of Charlotte.
The event, held on June 12 at Myers Park Presbyterian Church, brought together talented culinary professionals from continuing care retirement communities in the region to provide entrées and desserts for guests to taste and judge. More than 300 people attended the fundraiser, enjoying exceptional cuisine and fellowship.
After the voting was tallied, the culinary team from Windsor Run received second place in the best entrée category, presenting a delicious meal featuring Sous Vide Berkshire Farms pork tenderloin, Wild Hope Farms sweet potato puree seasoned with local honey and Port & Blackberry Aigre Doux with lightly-dressed greens.
Windsor Run Executive Chef Patrick Yeager, Chef Christopher Zion and Chef Derek Babinski combined their advanced culinary knowledge to create the award-winning dish.
“Given their knowledge of similar regional competitions, they sourced many of the ingredients locally and practiced to hone the production process to be sustainable during the competition,” stated William Bremer, Director of Dining at Windsor Run. “The plate presentation was exquisite, and the entrée tasted even better than it looked.”
A contingent of residents from the Erickson Living community supported Team Windsor Run at the event.
“We thank our residents for their encouragement. Many of them noted the quality of the entrees we serve every night exceeded some of the dishes presented by our competitors. It was also an opportunity for others in attendance to see the standards that have become the norm from this talented group of culinarians at Windsor Run, and representative throughout Erickson Living as a whole,” noted Mr. Bremer.
The Shepherd’s Center of Charlotte is a non-profit organization that connects learning programs and services to support and enrich the lives of older adults.
