Carolina Trust BancShares’ CEO Saw a 6 Percent Increase in Total Compensation

The chief executive officer of Carolina Trust BancShares Inc., the parent company of Carolina Trust Bank, saw a 6 percent increase in total compensation for 2018, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing on Thursday.

Jerry Ocheltree’s total compensation for the year totaled $467,174, up from $441,653 in the company’s 2017 fiscal year.

All other compensation for Ocheltree increased to $56,527 in 2018 from $55,460 in 2017. Expenses included in this total include Ocheltree’s automobile allowance and country club dues paid on his behalf in 2018.

Ocheltree’s salary for 2018 was $285,370, up 2.5 percent from his base salary in 2017 of $278,409.

Ocheltree saw a bonus of $123,564 for 2018 through the company’s management incentive plan. Under the plan, each officer was eligible, subject to attainment of the applicable performance goals, for a cash incentive payout opportunity. Each participating officer had a target award and range that defined the incentive opportunity.

Chief Financial Officer Edwin Laws received total compensation of $251,506 during the 2018 fiscal year, up 19.7 percent from 2017. He saw an increase in his non-equity incentive plan compensation for 2018.

Laws base salary for 2018 is $170,000 according to the filing which can be found here. His salary increased 16 percent from 2017.

Carolina Trust BancShares is based in Lincolnton, North Carolina, and is the parent company of Carolina Trust Bank. The bank has locations throughout North Carolina, as well as, two in South Carolina.

The company reported fourth-quarter earnings for 2018 with a net income of $946,000 or 13 cents per diluted share as compared to a net loss of $354,000 or 8 cents per diluted share in the quarter ended Dec. 31, 2017.

The company’s annual shareholders meeting will be May 21 at 1 p.m. at The Lincoln Cultural Center, located at 403 E. Main St., in Lincolnton

The company’s shares are up 3.71 percent to $8.95 Friday afternoon.
