J & J Snack Foods Handhelds Corp., a Holly Ridge, North Carolina-based company, is recalling approximately 56,578 pounds of stuffed sandwich products that may be contaminated with extraneous materials.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced the recall on April 5, stating that semi-transparent plastic may be contaminating the company’s stuffed sandwich products.

The company is recalling two products produced between Feb. 19 and Feb. 20 with the establishment number “EST. 27231” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

The products subject to recall are:

9-ounce carton packages containing two stuffed pepperoni sandwiches and labeled “Bremer Classic Pepperoni Pizza Hot Stuffed Sandwiches,” with best-if-used-by dates of Aug, 12, 2020, and Aug. 13, 2020;

9-ounce carton packages containing two ham-and-cheese sandwiches labeled “Bremer Classic Ham & Cheese Hot Stuffed Sandwiches,” with best-if-used-by dates of Aug.12, 2020, and Aug. 13, 2020

The problem came to light when the the company received consumer complaints about the products, according. Food Safety and Inspection Service was notified of the problem on April 3.

The government agency said it has yet to receive any reports of injury or illness from the consumption of these products, which were shipped to retail locations nationwide.

The agency is urging consumers who have purchased these products not to consume them, and instead to throw the products away or return them to the place of purchase.
