Circle K, a convenience store franchise, announced that it’s laying off 50 workers in its Sanford, North Carolina, office.

Circle K cited the reasoning for the layoffs in a WARN Notice to Russell Doles, rapid response manager at the North Carolina Department of Commerce.

“We examined ways to increase our collaboration, efficiencies, and our overall support model, while reducing complexity and leveraging our scale and size across multiple service centers,” the company said. “As a result of this review, Circle K Inc., will be implementing a mass layoff, which will eliminate its Operational Store Accounting department located in Sanford, Lee County, North Carolina.”

Founded in 1951, Circle K is an international chain of convenience stores that has been owned by the Canadian international operator of convenience stores, Couche-Tard, since 2003. Circle K offers food, beverages and car services at its locations in North America and Europe.

The most laid off position is account analysts, being 22 of the 50 to have their employment terminated. The position with the second highest amount of layoffs is price book associates at 13, followed by accounting associate at six.

Circle K anticipates that employment will be terminated on January 31, 2020.
