LendingTree Chief Accounting Officer Profits $5.6M from Stock Sale

The chief accounting officer of LendingTree, an online loan marketplace, profited $5.6 million by exercising options and then selling the stock of the Charlotte-based company, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The filing from Tuesday shows Carla Shumate exercised options to purchase 17,505 shares at $26.59 each and then sold those shares at $350 for a profit of $5.6 million.

Shumate now owns 2,657 shares of common stock worth approximately $929,000.

Shumate has served as chief accounting officer of LendingTree since 2013. She has previously served as senior vice president of King Pharmaceuticals in Tennessee. Shumate received her bachelor’s degree in accounting from Wake Forest University and has been a certified public accountant for over 20 years.

LendingTree was founded in 1996.

In October 2018, LendingTree expanded its operations by acquiring QuoteWizard ,a Seattle-based insurance comparison company, for $370.2 million. In February, it reported better-than-expected earnings for its fourth quarter.

Shares of LendingTree closed at $352.36 on Tuesday, down approximately 3 percent from the previous day’s close of $362.01.
