HZO, which makes protective nanocoatings that safeguard electronics from corrosive and liquid environments, is relocating its headquarters from Salt Lake City, Utah, to Raleigh, North Carolina.

HZO expects to be fully operational in Raleigh by late Summer 2019.

HZO has a patent portfolio to meet customer requirements to protect their products from rain, sweat, salt water, corrosion and more. Its products are used by companies such as Nike, Rakuten Kobo, Motorola, Dell and Netatmo.

The company said that the move reflects its global growth and its needs to access technical talent, new business partnerships and cutting-edge technology.

The Raleigh location will also provide access to top talent, including graduates from UNC-Chapel Hill, Duke University, North Carolina State University and Wake Forest University.

The new facilities will provide the company with up to 10 times more U.S.-based manufacturing space, four times more research and development space, and three times more lab space.

“By 2020, there will be over 30 billion connected devices that require protection from the elements and everyday life,” said CEO Simone Maraini in a statement. “For almost a decade, HZO has protected everything from consumer electronics to mission-critical devices, at a pace and scale that has earned it the trust of major household brands and industrial giants.”

HZO’s global operations today spans 12 factories and manages a contracted workforce that will exceed 2,000 this year.
