Hillsborough-based adult retailer Adam & Eve announced Tuesday it had acquired the Excite Group PTY of Melbourne, Australia for an undisclosed amount.

The Excite group has been in business for 16 years, focusing on Australia and New Zealand. It has e-commerce sites similar to Adam & Eve, including Wild Secrets, Fantasy Lingerie, Linspree, Fantasy Footwear, Costume Wearhouse and FGMO.

“Wild Secrets and the Excite Group are Australia’s leader in e-commerce lingerie and adult oriented products,” said Adam & Eve New Business Manager Bob Christian. “Both companies and their people are very excited about the prospects and opportunities for the future.”

Adam & Eve founder Phil Harvey said the acquisition will help the company become truly international.

“We soon expect to be selling a growing number of toys and accoutrements for better sex on all continents, except perhaps Antarctica,” said Harvey in a statement.

Excite founder Gerrard Guimmarra entered into discussion with Adam & Eve almost two years ago. Guimmarra will stay on for several months to help the companies with the transition.

“Bringing together the largest online sex toy retailers in the USA and in Australia was an opportunity that simply could not be passed up,” said Giummarra. “It all happened on Valentine’s Day; what a romantic way to start a perfect match.”
