Commscope, Inc., a Hickory-based communications infrastructure company, has announced current Arris International CEO Bruce McClelland will join Commscope as chief operating officer after its acquisition of Arris is completed.

Arris is a telecommunications equipment manufacturing company headquartered in Suwanee, Georgia. In November 2018, Commscope announced it had agreed to acquire Arris for approximately $7.4 billion in cash.

The transaction is expected to close during the first six months of 2019.

McClelland has served as chief executive officer and a member of the Arris board of directors since September 2016.

In addition, Commscope’s current Chief Operating Officer Morgan Kurk will become chief technology officer of Commscope after the deal closes.

Kurk has served as Commscope’s executive vice president and chief operating officer since 2018. He has worked for the company since 2009 and has previously worked for Motorola as a hardware development engineer.

Kurk and McClelland will report to Eddie Edwards, Commscope president and chief executive officer.

“Since announcing the transaction in November, we have worked closely with Eddie and the Commscope leaders developing detailed plans to capitalize on the incredible opportunities ahead and deliver a seamless transition,” said McClelland in a press release.

Commscope’s shares rose 49 cents, or 2.2 percent, to $22.68 on Friday.
