Sodexo Inc., a food and facilities management company, is laying off 69 employees as it permanently closes its operations at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport later this year.

In a notice sent to the North Carolina Department of Commerce, the company stated that all affected employees will begin separation on March 31.

The entire unit’s operation will be closed.

Sodexo received notice from AA Admirals Club Charlotte, the premium lounges sponsored by American Airlines Inc., that the client will no longer use Sodexo to perform food and beverage services.

Sodexo notified the Department of Commerce of the upcoming layoffs in accordance with the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, which requires companies to give a 60-day public notice of mass layoffs.

Employees at the Charlotte facilities will not be able to use seniority to bump employees at other facilities out of their positions. This is because they are not represented by a union.

Sodexo, founded in 1966, considers itself a leader in quality of life services.

According to the company website, Sodexo provides integrated food, facilities management and other services that enhance organizational performance to enhance the health and well-being of its customers.

The company employs 150,000 workers at 13,000 sites in the U.S. and Canada.

North Carolina has seen 379 employees laid off through WARN notices in 2019. North Carolina’s 2019 WARN summary can be found here.
