Pyxus International Inc. reported that it will take a $2.7 million restructuring charge as part of a previously announced overhaul.

In November, the Morrisville, North Carolina-based company said that its Farmville, North Carolina, facility would be repurposed for storage and special products, in an effort to consolidate its processing operations to its plant in Wilson, North Carolina.

The company expects those changes to result in an expense of $2.7 million, comprised primarily of $2.2 million in severance expenses, for the 565 workers it laid off.

Pyxus expects $900,000 in severance expenses during the remainder of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2019, and $1.3 million the following fiscal year ending March 31, 2020.

The company last year made a decision to diversify its business into the hemp and cannabis industry, in an effort to mitigate rising financial complications.

Pyxus specializes in the tobacco, and more recently industrial hemp and legal Canadian cannabis markets. Currently main operations include the production of raw tobacco used by cigarettes companies, with plans for the company to the emphasize its production of medical cannabis for use in Canada.

Its shares closed Thursday at $13.19, up 22 cents.
