Spirit Airlines announced Tuesday that it will provide nonstop service from Raleigh-Durham International Airport to seven cities beginning in May.

The seven non-stop flights will have daily and year-round service between RDU and Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Detroit, Orlando, Fort Lauderdale and New Orleans.

Spirit Airlines is now the 10th airline to serve travelers who fly through RDU.

“We are excited to bring our low fares and signature service to the Raleigh-Durham International Airport, our third destination in the Tar Heel state,” said Matt Klein, Spirit Airlines’ senior vice president and chief commercial officer. “Our nonstop service to seven of Spirit’s largest destinations will allow our new guests in the Research Triangle to get away just in time for a summer vacation.”

Spirit Airlines operates more than 400 daily flights to 60 destinations across the U.S., Latin America and the Caribbean.

RDU is the primary travel gateway from central North Carolina to 68 non-stop destinations. The airport provides transport to over 12 million passengers each year and around 30,000 customers every day.

Spirit Airlines shares were trading at $59.02, up 19 cents, or 0.32 percent in early Tuesday afternoon trading.
