Staff builds six bicycles to be donated to area foster children

For businesses, team-building activities take on a variety of forms, from zip-lining in a forest to playing paint ball in a themed-venue.

The Leadership Team of Windsor Run took it the extra step. On November 29, employees of the Erickson Living retirement community chose a project that helped a local charity in time for the holidays.

They partnered with Queen City Bicycles and Trips for Kids Charlotte to build six new, safety-inspected bicycles that will be donated to children via Foster Village Charlotte.

“The teams had to tackle a series of challenges, negotiate with each other and align strategies,” described Allison Vessels,Ed.D., SPHR, SHRM-SCP, Human Resources Director. “It was a terrific experience, and I’d encourage other businesses to consider doing something similar.”

The added value of performing an activity that benefitted others encouraged participation.

“We are blessed beyond measure with our families and careers at Windsor Run,” stated Dr. Vessels. “Not only did we learn more about the wonderful work performed by Foster Village Charlotte, but we also took advantage of the opportunity to put our Erickson Living values into action.”

Anna Glodowski, Program Director of Trips for Kids Charlotte, and Bart Stetler, Owner of Queen City Bicycles, were on hand at Windsor Run to support the project.

The mission of Foster Village is to come alongside children and families in the Charlotte area child welfare system and show them they are not alone. More information about volunteer opportunities and available services can be found at https://fostervillagecharlotte.org.
