Charlotte-based Capitala Group Invests in Visible Body

Capitala Group announced Monday its investment in anatomy application company Visible Body to help drive the growth of its business-to-consumer and business-to-business market segments.

Charlotte-based Capitala did not disclose the size of its investment.

Visible Body, which is based in Massachusetts, owns and operates a series of applications that focus on advancing the way students learn about the human body and healthcare professionals practice.

Its Human Anatomy Atlas app has been its most successful application since its introduction in 2007. The app allows students and health care professionals to learn about the human anatomy through an interactive 3D model.

The app was recently awarded a gold award on Oct. 15 in the 2018 W3 Awards. It won gold in the mobile education category, which focuses on “mobile apps developed specifically for the act or process of acquiring knowledge or the distribution of educational content.”

Beyond its consumer apps, Visible Body operates a cloud-based visible learning platform which used by universities, high schools, online learning providers, and healthcare professionals.

Capitala Group was founded in 1998 with the purpose of serving the capital needs of small businesses in and around North Carolina.

The group is now a $2.7 billion asset management firm that provides capital to lower and traditional middle market businesses throughout North America.
