Boise Cascade Co., a manufacturer of wood products and building materials headquartered in Boise, Idaho, is laying off employees in its Roxboro, North Carolina facility, according to a filing with the North Carolina Department of Commerce.

The layoff is expected to be permanent, but the company does not believe the Roxboro location will reach the threshold to require a mass layoff.

Approximately 58 employees are projected to be terminated on Dec. 31.

On Nov. 6, Boise Cascade announced a cease in production of laminated veneer lumber at the Roxboro facility.

“Unfortunately, despite great effort by the team, we have been unable to reduce manufacturing costs to an acceptable level,” said Boise Cascade CEO Tom Corrick.

“We understand the effect this shutdown has on our employees, their families, and the community. We will work to place employees or make them aware of job opportunities at our other facilities, as well as share available employee assistance resources.”

Boise Cascade plans to offer severance to all employees affected by the reduction in exchange for a waiver of all claims.

The Roxboro facility is one of the company’s engineered wood product mills.

Boise Cascade manufactures plywood, engineered wood products and lumber. Through its 33 distribution locations, it supplies wood products and building materials.

Its stock price was down 6.71 percent on Friday afternoon.
