Dentsply Sirona Inc., a manufacturer of dental products and technologies, will add 320 jobs over three years in Mecklenberg County, according to the N.C. Department of Commerce.

Dentsply Sirona, also known as the Dental Solutions Co., currently employs 145 people in North Carolina. With its expansion, the manufacturer expects to add positions in sales, customer service, clinical education, marketing and executive roles.

Once the positions are filled, the average payroll impact will be approximately $23 million. Average salaries expected to be above Mecklenburg County’s average wage, which are slightly below $65,000, according to the latest figures from the Labor Department.

“North Carolina has the right ingredients for success for manufacturers and life sciences companies, including skilled, experienced workers,” said Gov. Roy Cooper in a statement. “Dentsply Sirona’s decision proves again that the life sciences industry is thriving here, and I welcome these good new jobs for North Carolina.”

The company offers dental and oral health products as well as other consumable medical devices. It is the largest manufacturer of professional and dental products and technologies in the world.

The expansion will be facilitated by in part by a Job Development Investment Grant, The JDIG agreement authorizes potential reimbursement to the company of up to $3.94 million, spread over 12 years.

This influenced the company to pick Charlotte over its headquarters in York, Pennsylvania.

Dentsply Sirona will invest $3 million in its expansion in North Carolina.

“We are excited to grow in North Carolina with the establishment of a U.S. commercial hub in Charlotte for our sales activities and the ongoing educational programs offered through our Dentsply Sirona Academy,” said Don Casey, CEO of Dentsply Sirona.

This is not the only recent expansion news for the company in North Carolina. Dentsply Sirona hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony May 24, 2018 to celebrate its new training facility, Dentsply Sirona Academy, in Charlotte.

In addition to jobs, the academy plans to train 10,000 dentists a year at the facility.

According to an article from Spectrum News Charlotte, the company says the first 110 employees are already moved in and ready to get to work.
