Power is slowly coming back to North Carolina homes and businesses Duke Energy and North Carolina's as 26 electric cooperatives continue their restoration efforts after Hurricane Florence.

With winds that reached over 100 mph and rainfall as heavy as 30 inches in some areas, Hurricane Florence caused extensive damage that left hundreds of thousands of people in North Carolina without power.

Duke Energy estimates that most customers without power in the Carolinas will have their power restored by Sept. 26 at 11:45 p.m., if not sooner.

As of Monday, 20,000 Duke Energy personnel had restored power to 1.2 million of the 1.5 million customers left without power by the storm.

As of Monday at 11 p.m., 223,000 customers —mostly in North Carolina — are still without power.

“We’re doing everything we can to safely restore power to every customer as quickly as conditions allow,” said Duke Energy incident commander Howard Fowler in a statement. “We won’t rest until the job is done.”

Duke Energy will reach out to its customers via text message, when available, with updated power restoration times and additional information as they continue their largest ever storm response in the Carolinas.

Since Florence hit, North Carolina’s 26 electric cooperatives have also restored power to approximately 186,000 of their members, more than half of the 326,000 members that were without power during the peak of power outages on Saturday.

North Carolina’s electric cooperatives, aided by support crews from across the Southeast and as far as Minnesota, are working to remedy the 92,497 outages still left as of 6:07 p.m. on Monday.

Affected electric cooperative members can check real-time outage numbers and locations on their website. Duke Energy customers can see the most recent map for power restoration times here.
