Restaurant company Bojangles’ Inc. reported second-quarter earnings Thursday below analyst estimates, but its revenue came in higher than what Wall Street expected.

The Charlotte-based company reported net income of $2.4 million, or 6 cents per share, for the second quarter, down from net income of $8.4 million, or 22 cents per share, in the same quarter a year ago. Analysts were expecting earnings of 16 cents per share.

Revenue of $140.5 million, which was 2.7 percent higher than revenue of $136.8 million a year ago, beat analyst estimates of $139.4 million.

“Our continued focus on well-run restaurants is best reflected in the progress we are making on staffing and training, improving speed, accuracy and quality, and promoting signature menu items with value messaging,” said interim Chief Executive Officer Randy Kibler in a statement.

Bojangles shares fell 30 cents, or 2.3 percent, to $12.80 in after-hours trading on Thursday. The results were released after the market closed.

Sales at locations open at least a year fell 0.2 percent in the quarter. Sales at company-owned locations fell 0.8 percent, while sales at franchise locations rose 0.1 percent.

The company said it plans to close 10 underperforming locations during the third quarter and re-franchise 30 locations in Tennessee and Georgia to one of its largest franchisees.

The closings will result in a pre-tax charge between $12 million and $15 million while the re-franchising will result in a pre-tax charge of $4 million to $5 million.

Bojangles also lowered its expected 2018 revenue projection to between $542 million and $547 million, down from $550 million t0 $560 million.

It is also cutting the opening of new locations for the year to between 18 and 22, down from projected openings between 30 and 40.

At the end of the quarter, there were 325 company-owned restaurants and 441 franchise locations.
